Overview

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The disease causes respiratory illness with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually, however, around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and has difficulty breathing, especially those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes.

COVID-19 spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

Redcliffe Lifesciences provide COVID-19 testing services.
Also, we aim to analyze differences in the genetic code of viruses from different patients. This will help us in mapping real time COVID-19 spread in India. Also, we would be able to track new mutations and identify if different strain emerges.

Redcliffe Lifesciences Real time PCR Kit for COVID19 Detection

The Real time PCR Kit for COVID19 Detection - an innovative product of Viet A Technology Corporation and UK based Redcliffe Bioscience - is a qualitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) kit which enables simultaneous detection of two COVID-19 - specific signature regions in a single reaction. It also includes detection of human housekeeping gene as an Internal Control (IC) to identify possible PCR inhibitions from sample processing.

The kit contains all the necessary PCR reagents for rapid, sensitive and specific detection using target-specific primers and double-labeled hydrolysis probes. This kit has been validated on samples extracted from sputum, nasopharyngeal and throat swabs.

Partnership with BSIP

We have partnered with Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeoscience (BSIP), Lucknow to contribute to the ongoing diagnostics and discoveries around COVID-19. While BSIP, which is accredited by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has been appointed as the sample analysing centre (SAC), we will provide infectious diagnostic testing services for COVID-19.

BSIP will provide infrastructure, which has biosafety level covering laboratories that work with agents associated with human diseases (pathogenic or infections organisms that pose a moderate health hazard) as per ICMR guidelines and Redcliffe conduct a prescribed diagnostic test within a set time (calculated from the sample receipt) and issue a formal test report using our manpower trained at handling infectious samples.

SARS-CoV-2 Sequencing

Whole genome sequencing (WGS) provides highest possible resolution information regarding the organism’s genome and a better understanding of virus pathogenicity and epidemiological surveillance. We aim to sequence the whole genome of the viruses from different patients for determining the differences in the genetic code of the viruses. This will help to map the spread of the virus, in real-time and will provide an insight for research on viral replication, packaging and functioning on host cells.

Genetic analysis would also help to track new mutations and identify if different strains emerge. This enhanced understanding of the genetic makeup of this virus can eventually help us save lives as it would help in forming strategies for public and clinical healthcare. It will also lead to creation of therapies and vaccines to combat the virus.
